I skimmed this book for an upcoming class. I think there are some good nuggets in here about how to change the church into one that would appeal to the unchurched but as a pastor at a small, very old mainline church, it is daunting to think about but perhaps the only way to continue into the next decade/5. the product of our colleges, universities, and seminaries. Yet the church and the school have not always been on friendly terms. The early Christian movement was indifferent to education, when not hostile to it. We find traces of that in the New Testament.
The disciples were simple men of no learning. The New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE) brings to culmination the work of nearly scholars, including translators, editors, and a subcommittee of Catholic bishops who provided extensive review of the biblical text over a period of many years.
The NABRE is the first major amendment to the New American Bible translation since /5(91). Entitled simply Churches, Judith Dupr 's unique coffee-table book features stunning full-color photography of some of the world's most recognizable churches.
The book highlights some of the oldest Christian houses of worship, such as Jerusalem's Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, and more recent additions, such as California's Crystal Cathedral and the MIT Chapel/5(28). And as students begin a new semester (the first for many), I thought it might be worthwhile to bring together the two pieces above and make a list of ten books that I would recommend for college students who identify as Catholic or are interested in Catholicism.
